Background

Born to a nurse and a doctor who worked outside Nashville. He was the oldest of what would eventually be five brothers and sisters. Life wasn't easy for them as they tried to live off what they could. He was the oldest and had a lot of responsibilities placed on him, but he made them work as he went through school, graduating with a 3.8 GPA.

He chose the hometown school so that he could be close and still help with his brothers and sisters. He had committed to Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship and soon made a name for himself at the university. He played DB, though he wasn't the best man out there. As he was in college he attended a career fair and spoke with a representative from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. He was considering joining if his football efforts didn't really work out.

In 1999 he was drafted into the NFL as a third round pick by the newly formed hometown team, the Tennessee Titans. He fought in training camp but was eventually dropped from the team due to cap reasons. He was re-signed four months before the season however and accepted a two-year contract. He received a few endorsement deals and frequently worked with several local companies on radio and TV ads.

During his off season, he entered the MNPD's officer class to become a reserve police officer. He served as a police officer during the off-season. After his contract ran up and he wasn't resigned, he transferred as a full-time police officer.

His time as an officer was very fun. He loved helping people and though he wasn't making millions, he was content with his job and how he interacted with people. It showed him the different aspects of the city, the good, and the bad and downright weird.

In 2004 he transferred into the department's new FLEX units. FLEX officers work the entire precinct boundaries and are not limited to a certain beat. They work to provide help and target situations where a crime trend is emerging. They are on call 24-7 whenever the commander needs them. Marcus stayed here for three years and he liked the variety of work he did each day or night. He stayed there for two years until his brother started experiencing some problems at his college. He decided to move out to California so he could be closer to his brother and keep him safe.

He transferred into the SFPD's lateral class in May 2006. He likes his new location and the environment it has.
