Background |
Donald "Grandpa" O'Conner was Born in Chicago under the reign
of the first Mayor Richard Daley, he was a smart child who skipped ahead
first grade and later attended school at St Rita's a Catholic school on
the southwest side.
After graduation he enlisted in the Army having little idea what to do
with his life and spent 4 years as a file clerk in Germany and Korea.
Bored with that life when he got out and came back to Chicago he took
the Police exam mainly to see how he'd do.
However during the time he waited for his results he started to read up
and began to see what he could do as a cop, so he joined up with the
naive youthful visions of saving society. Starting out in the second
District he began to get a reputation as a hard charger.
During that time he met Maureen Johansen, who was studying nursing at
the local community college. Within a year they were married, and
within two years they had their first child a daughter. During that
time he began to be more careful having a family to provide for after all.
During this time he worked hard to get a Bachelor's degree in history
and was transferred to the tactical team where he worked gang
identification and narcotics. During that time he had two more children,
moved to a nice southside house. And was moved to the 18th district on
Chicago's northside. First moving from sector patrol to Wagon duty where
he finally retired when his wife was offered a position as a senior
nursing supervisor for Sierra Falls General Hospital in the Neuro
Intensive Care Unit, she had turned down a position earlier when he was
moved to wagon patrol duty.
Once out in California he found retirement frightfully dull. When he
was doing the mall tourist thing he saw a SFPD recruiting booth. With a conversation with the recruiter they were ready to hire him as a
lateral officer, which he signed up for and was soon accepted.
After the Lateral academy he was assigned to patrol and is ready to
start his new career. During some of the classes he was nicknamed"grandpa" by the younger officers. |

Personlity Profile |
He seems to be friendly and open when working,
though he can when necessary put on his 'cop face' which hides his
emotions effectively.
Off duty he is always one up for a barbecue, heading to a game, except
when it conflicts with either the White Sox or Bears, teams he has
followed for years |
