In August 2005, SFPD agreed a contract with Dodge to provide the Department with replacement police cruisers, the first to be delivered in mid-Septemer 2005.
The 2006 model Charger is equipped with a 3.5 litre V6 engine for standard district patrol and a 5.7 litre V8 for highway units.
From January 2006, two color schemes have been adopted by the Department. A primarily blue and silver scheme for Highway Patrol Unit, with retroreflective decals to the rear and sides for high visibility in darkness; and a primarily white scheme with department logo and decals in blue and yellow for patrol vehicles. 2006/07 Dodge Magnum
Supervisor/K9/Highway Vehicle/SWAT
As part of the contract with Dodge, SFPD also requested a more agile vehicle to equip to K9 Handlers, and a larger capacity vehicle for Sergeants/Highway Units to use. The result was the Dodge Magnum. This vehicle is also used by SWAT officers on patrol duties.
The K9 Support and Supervisor unit are equipped with the 3.5 litre V6 engine, whilst the HPU and SWAT version uses the 5.7 litre V8.

2006/07 Ford Explorer
4x4 Patrol/K9 Vehicle/HPU Vehice
The Ford Explorer is utilised by units operating in more rural regions, and around the beach areas to provide 4x4 capability to the police officers utilising them. The K9 Explorer carries two seperated dog cages in the rear (extending into the rear seating area). The Highway Policing Unit also operates two Explorers as incident and goods vehicle enforcement vehicles. |

Chevrolet Tahoes are utilised by SFPD as specialist vehicles, should the need arise to use a 4x4. CSI and SWAT utilise these vehicles due to the additional cargo capability. The Chevrolet Tahoe is also used by Police Paramedic Units. |

Ford Pickups are used for 4x4 patrol vehicles in rural and beach areas. Officers in Crime Scene Investigations may choose to utilise the marked Ford Pickups due to their more extensive cargo capacity.They are also utilised by SWAT.

Mobile Command Unit
Sierra Falls Police Department utilises a GMC custom-made extended touring wagon, commonly referred to as the 'command bus', as the mobile command unit for major incidents. It is equipped with a variety of computer and radio equipment and can be satellite/radio linked to the SFPD Communications/Despatch centre. |

Utility Truck
The specialist designed utility truck provides an equipment and personnel transport vehicle for SWAT officers. There are three such vehicles, two equipped for standard SWAT operations, the third equipped for bomb disposal operations. These vehicles should always be escorted by cruisers to an incident scene as their maneouvrability is limited. |
| Unmarked Vehicles |
Unmarked Police Vehicles are both owned and hired by SFPD for use by non-uniform departments, primarily the Detective Bureau and various branches, Command Team and Administration-related staff.
Police owned unmarked vehicles are equipped with permanently fitted covert grille, dash and deck lights and often a siren, all are fitted with police radios. Hired vehicles utilise temporary mounted beacons either on dash or roof. |

SFPD owns a variety of makes and models of unmarked vehicles, the primary manufacturer being the Chrysler/Dodge group, as per the new SFPD/Dodge Contract, however several Ford vehicles are still in circulation from pre-2006. The department owned vehicles include the Dodge Magnum, Charger, Stratus and Caravan; and Ford Crown Victoria.
Also available for supervisory use are the Ford Explorer and Ford Explorer SportTrac (pick-up). These are usually individually issued to Lieutenants and above. |
